International Cooperation Center

The International Cooperation Center (ICC)

Primary Hub for Global Engagement

The International Cooperation Center (ICC) of Nanyang Academy of Sciences serves as the primary hub for global engagement, strategic partnerships, and the internationalization of scientific research. The Center is committed to facilitating cross-border collaboration, enhancing the global impact of research, and bridging the gap between academia, industry, and government.

Foundational Framework: "One Academy, One Database, One Consortium"

Leveraging a strategic framework known as "One Academy, One Database, One Consortium", the Center operates under the following foundational elements:

"Four-in-One" Service Model

Guided by this framework, the Center has established a "Four-in-One" service model, integrating the following key pillars:

  1. Expert Resource Sharing and Collaboration
  2. International Visiting and Mobility Programs
  3. Global Academic Conferences
  4. International Scientific Publishing

This holistic approach enables NASS to deliver comprehensive, professional, and one-stop international research support services, with the ultimate goal of advancing global innovation and knowledge exchange.

Core International Services of ICC

The International Cooperation Center is designed to serve as a dynamic international platform that connects researchers, institutions, and innovators from around the world. By fostering collaboration, enabling mobility, and amplifying research impact, the Center supports the global flow of knowledge, technology, and talent, and helps maximize the value of scientific endeavor.

Based in Singapore, a city-state at the crossroads of global shipping and trade routes, NASS has long positioned itself as a hub for innovation and scientific research in Asia and beyond. Anchored in this framework, the Center leverages Singapore’s multicultural talent pool, highly internationalized environment, forward-looking policies, and connectivity to build a “Four-in-One” service system that links Eastern and Western expertise to serve global sustainability and frontier science agendas.

Singapore’s open talent policies and world-class research infrastructure make it a magnet for international experts. Building on this, the Center:

  • Establishes a transnational expert think tank: Attracts leading scholars from Europe, North America, Asia, and beyond to Singapore, creating a high level, cross disciplinary intellectual network.
  • Promotes regional joint research: Takes advantage of Singapore’s diplomatic and geographic ties in Southeast Asia to set up collaborative platforms with universities, research institutes, and industries, focusing on key topics such as tropical marine science, sustainable cities, and digital economy.
  • Enables bidirectional local–global empowerment: Brings global cutting edge ideas and methods to Singapore while exporting Singapore’s proven practices in urban planning, water management, and clean energy to the world.
  • Creates knowledge sharing platforms: Operates physical and virtual collaboration spaces in Singapore, facilitating real time exchanges, remote mentoring, and joint problem solving, thereby strengthening Singapore’s role as Asia’s knowledge interchange hub.

Singapore’s position as an international mobility hub—supported by efficient visa policies, high quality of life, and multicultural vibrancy—enables the Center to:

  • Implement two way visiting scholar schemes: Invite global leaders to conduct collaborative research in Singapore, while sending outstanding Singaporean and ASEAN researchers abroad for training, creating a continuous flow of talent and knowledge.
  • Develop a regional talent development base: Leverage Singapore’s universities and research institutions with international curricula to provide joint training and hands on opportunities for young scholars from Southeast Asia and beyond.
  • Offer cross cultural immersion: Utilize Singapore’s multiracial, multilingual society to immerse visiting scholars and researchers in authentic multicultural settings, enhancing their global competence.
  • Connect to global laboratories: Tap into Singapore’s direct links with top global research networks to arrange placements in overseas labs for in depth learning and collaboration.

3. Global Academic Conferences

Singapore’s safe, efficient, and international conference facilities make it a preferred host for world class events. The Center capitalizes on this by:

  • Building flagship academic brands: Hosting high profile international conferences and summits in Singapore on sustainability, marine science, smart cities, and other global priorities, attracting leaders from government, industry, and academia.
  • Blending onsite and virtual reach: Using Singapore’s advanced digital infrastructure to connect participants across time zones, ensuring strong Asian representation in global discourse.
  • Creating cross sector dialogue platforms: Drawing on Singapore’s close collaboration among government, business, and academia to turn research outcomes into policy and industrial action rapidly.
  • Supporting early career researchers: Organizing dedicated sessions for young scientists from Southeast Asia and Asia to showcase their work and build international networks.

4. International Scientific Publishing

— Disseminating Excellence from the Lion City to the World

NASS, through its platform of distinguished scholars, has partnered with leading academic publishers to establish the Asia-Pacific Academic Publishing Alliance. This alliance supports a broad-based, international journal publishing system with coverage in fields such as agriculture, digital researcher, architecture, education, language study, sustainable marine, and more.

By adopting a dual approach of self-publishing and strategic partnership, and collaborating with globally recognized publishing houses, including Bilingual Publishing Group, UK Scientific Publishing Limited, Japan Bilingual Publishing co., and Cypedia International Union of Scientific and Technological Scholars and others, offers researchers a channel to expand their academic networks and enhance research visibility:

  • High-quality publication platforms
  • Opportunities to launch or contribute to international journals

Uses Singapore as a publishing and dissemination hub to secure global recognition and application of Asian research outcomes, while importing international best practices to raise local standards.
